What to expect
Your first three sessions
Couples sessions are 80 minutes. Dr. Ellison sets the pace with you, so the third session is where the work begins, not where it ends.
- 01
Step 1: Before you begin
One of you writes for both. You get the fee in writing and a link to the intake forms on the practice's portal. Please do not send medical details through this website.
- 02
Step 2: Session one, together
Dr. Ellison asks what each of you wants and how the pattern looks from each side. You do not have to agree. She explains the method and what it asks of you, and you decide whether to go on.
- 03
Step 3: Session two, on your own
Each of you meets Dr. Ellison alone, once, on separate days. It is a chance to say how you see the relationship and what you want from it. Before you speak she tells you what stays with her and what she brings back to the couple.
- 04
Step 4: Session three, together
She says what she has seen, in plain words, and checks it with both of you. Then you agree where to start and how often to meet.
Questions
About the first sessions
01Do we have to talk about everything?
No. You decide what to share, and when. Many first sessions are about pace and what you want from the work.
02Why does each of us meet alone?
So each of you can say how you see the relationship, and ask what you would rather not ask in front of your partner. Dr. Ellison explains how it is handled before you share anything. Ask her if you would rather skip it, and she will say plainly what that changes.
03What if it is not a fit?
Then Dr. Ellison will say so and help you look for someone who is.
